Emma Gelbard currently lives and works in Boston, MA. Emma graduated from Cornell University in 2015 with a degree in Feminist, Gender, & Sexuality Studies as well as concentrations in Art History, Creative Writing, and Fine Arts. Emma’s artwork consists of densely detailed images that explore the relationship between internal identity, corporeality, and experience. The characters in these works are unconstrained by their bodies; their color, anatomy, and gesture honor the energy of their narrative. Emma’s art revels in the weirdness of having to fit an entire mind into a single human form.

As a graphic designer and freelance photographer, Emma works with a variety of clients, most frequently local and national groups in the immigrants’ rights movement. Art is part of liberation; the banners, signs, and installations Emma sends to the front lines of protests are as valuable as the work that ends up in galleries and people’s homes.
